Hedroom für Ihre Art, den Mac zu nutzen
Dieselbe App, durch vier Situationen betrachtet. Jede Seite nennt die Funktionen, die zählen, verlinkt sie und sagt klar, was Hedroom dort nicht kann.
Entwickler
The problem
A developer's Mac often looks wrong when it is fine: a virtual machine that holds gigabytes, a build that pins every core, an indexer that runs for an hour. It also fills up with build data you forgot about.
What matters here
- The process library marks Docker Desktop, builds and Xcode indexing as normally large or busy, so they are not reported as a leak or a runaway.
- Storage cleanup lists Xcode build data, Homebrew, npm, pnpm, Yarn, pip, CocoaPods and Gradle caches, and old simulators, each with its size. Files go to the Trash after you confirm the list.
- An Electron app (Slack, Discord, VS Code) is counted as one app. At 3 times its usual size, at least 1 GB, for about 20 minutes, it is flagged, and Relaunch asks it to quit the normal way.
Macs mit 8 GB
The problem
On a Mac with 8 GB, memory looks full almost all the time, and a full bar means little. What matters is whether macOS is struggling, and whether one app is the reason.
What matters here
- Memory is Strained when macOS reports pressure Warn, or when swap grows by 20 MB a minute or more for 2 minutes while compressed memory is at least 20% of RAM. Some swap on a calm Mac stays Healthy.
- One click on Relaunch for an app far past its usual size, then a receipt that measures whether pressure improved, or says it did not.
- The browser companion sleeps tabs you have not used for 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour. It works with Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox, not Safari.
Lokale KI
The problem
Running a language model on your own Mac depends mostly on whether it fits in memory, and you only learn that after downloading several gigabytes.
What matters here
- Pick a model family and size, 4, 8 or 16 bits per parameter, and a context length. Hedroom adds up weights, context cache and runtime, and answers Fits, Tight, Make room or Won't fit.
- It compares the total with what the GPU is allowed to use and what is free right now. The estimate can be off by about 15%, and Hedroom says so.
- Make room suggests apps to relaunch or quit, with the usual consent and receipt. On Macs with more than 24 GB, a higher GPU memory limit is available with the optional helper.
Laptops und Batterie
The problem
Battery life depends on which apps are busy while you are not looking, and macOS does not tell you which ones.
What matters here
- Energy per app shows watts per app from the counter macOS keeps. When there is no counter, the figure is marked as an estimate.
- A background app that averages 80% of a core for 3 minutes is flagged. On battery, the first suggestion is the efficiency cores, and the receipt compares the app's own watts before and after.
- Battery health is shown read-only, and Hedroom never changes charging. Fan curves exist on MacBook Pro only.
Not sure which one is you?
A few plain questions. Answer yes to more than one and read both pages: they share most of the app.
- Do you run Docker, Xcode, simulators or Electron-based tools? Read developers.
- Does your Mac have 8 GB, and does its memory always look full? Read 8 GB Macs, then the guide on why your Mac says memory is full.
- Do you work unplugged a lot, or hear fans or feel heat? Read laptops and battery.
- Do you want to run a language model and need to know if it fits? Read local AI.
- None of these? Start with how Hedroom works, or the guide to finding the app slowing your Mac, which needs only Activity Monitor.
What is the same on every page
The audience pages change what you read first, not what Hedroom does.
- It asks before it acts, and one safety check runs before any quit, pause or relaunch. Apple's own processes are never touched. What Hedroom never does.
- It has no button that clears memory. Memory is judged by pressure and swap, not by how full the bar looks.
- Every action gets a receipt, and the receipt says "No measurable effect." when that is the truth.
- Hedroom has not been released. Some tools ship after 1.0, and each page says which, and what has not been measured yet. Watching is free. Fixes, rules, new receipts and cleanup are Pro.
