Privacy
Hedroom works on your Mac. Here is the short version, then the details.
- Your Mac's details stay on your Mac. App names, usage, history and receipts never leave it.
- No account. Your license key is your identity. Payments are handled by Stripe, who process your card details. Hedroom never sees your card number.
- License checks send only the license key and a random device name. The name is "Hedroom-" plus random characters. Hedroom adds your Mac's name only if you tick the box to.
- No usage stats and no crash-report uploads. Hedroom has no analytics or tracking in version 1.0, and nothing is uploaded for crash reports. If we ever add optional, anonymous stats, they will be off until you turn them on, and this page will say exactly what they include.
- The browser extension collects nothing and makes no network requests. Tab titles and URLs never leave the extension, and they are not part of what it tells the Mac app.
- Feedback is sent only when you press Send. You can preview what goes with it first, and it is deleted after 90 days.
Everything Hedroom connects to
This is every outbound connection the Hedroom app makes. Nothing else is sent.
| What | Where | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|---|
| License check | api.hedroom.app | When you activate or deactivate a license, when you open the screen that lists and moves your Macs, and then about every 7 days. Only after you start a subscription or enter a key. | License key, device name (random), device ID |
| Update check | hedroom.app (appcast) | Once a day, and when you choose Check for updates | Hedroom version and build, macOS version. Hedroom turns off Sparkle's hardware profile. |
| Library update | library.hedroom.app | About once a week, and when you press Check now in Settings. Skipped at critical memory pressure, in Low Power Mode and with the battery under 20%. | Nothing. A plain download of the signed process list and its signature, with no cookies or identifiers. |
| Feedback | feedback.hedroom.app | Only when you press Send feedback | Your message, an optional contact email, Hedroom and macOS versions, and a diagnostics file only if you tick it and have previewed it. App names in it are hashed unless you tick to include them, and file paths are always removed. Kept 90 days, then deleted. |
Buy Pro opens this website's pricing page in your browser. The app itself makes no request to it.
When you buy Pro on this website
This is separate from the app. The pricing, welcome and manage pages on hedroom.app talk to the same license host, api.hedroom.app, and to Stripe. Nothing else.
| Step | Where | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| You press a plan button | api.hedroom.app | The plan name only. We get back a Stripe Checkout address and your browser goes there. |
| You enter your card and email | checkout.stripe.com | Whatever you type there. Stripe processes it and keeps your card details. Stripe's privacy policy applies. Hedroom never sees the card number. |
| The welcome page shows your key | api.hedroom.app | The checkout session ID from the address bar. |
| You open the billing page | api.hedroom.app, then billing.stripe.com | Your license key, to find your subscription. |
| You ask for a new key | api.hedroom.app | The email address you type. The answer is the same whether or not that address has a license. |
What Hedroom stores about a subscription: a one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself, after the first 24 hours), your plan, its status and dates, your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the email address you gave at checkout (so we can send you a new key), the names, IDs and activation dates of the Macs using the key, and the IDs of Stripe events we have already handled. We store no card number and no payment details. The website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts. The license service does not store IP addresses itself. The server it runs on keeps ordinary request logs that only we can read.
Your license key is shown on screen and in one email for the first 24 hours so you can copy it. After that, only the hash is kept, so we cannot read your key back. If you lose it, we send a new one and the old one stops working.
What adds no network calls
- The helper (fan curves and the GPU memory limit) has no networking code at all. It talks only to Hedroom, on your Mac.
- The browser extension and its native host make no network requests. They talk to the browser and to Hedroom over a local connection on your Mac, and the app opens no new connection for them.
- The weekly report, per-app energy, startup items, the display advisor and local AI headroom are computed on your Mac and sent nowhere.
Hedroom checks the signature of a new process library before using it. Settings › Privacy shows this list in the app.
