Hedroom herunterladen
Where things stand today
Hedroom has not been released. There is no file to download and no way to buy Pro yet. What exists is the app, built and tested in the repository, and a short list of steps still to do before the first signed build.
- What you can do now. Join the waitlist for one email when the first signed build is ready, read how Hedroom works and what it never does, or follow the roadmap.
- Tested so far. One MacBook Pro (M3 Pro, 18 GB) on macOS 27.0. Runs on macOS 15 and 26, and on 8 GB and 16 GB Macs, are planned before launch. See requirements.
- Still to do before the first build. Sign and notarize it with a Developer ID, create the key that signs updates, and check the helper approval on a signed build. The trust center lists what is checked and what is not.

What you get
One app for Apple Silicon Macs, with no Intel build. It has a main window and a menu bar panel for a quick look. The main window has these parts:
- Today says how your Mac is doing and names the one thing that matters, if there is one. "All good" is a normal answer.
- Memory and CPU & Energy show live readings with an explanation of each. Memory is judged by pressure and swap, not by how full the bar looks.
- Storage scans caches and leftovers. Nothing is removed without your confirmation of that exact list, each time.
- Rules and Receipts: standing instructions that all start off, and the measured before and after of every action, including "No measurable effect." when that is the truth.
- Tools, which arrive after the first release: startup items and the display advisor (1.1), energy per app and the browser companion (1.2), power and fans (1.3) and local AI headroom (later). The roadmap says which are built and what is still unchecked on real Macs.
What happens the first time you open it
Setup has four steps: Welcome, Our promises, Two quick things, and Looking around, where Hedroom reads your Mac once for a few seconds. It needs no card, no account, no admin password and no Full Disk Access. The table lists every approval you may meet, when, and what happens if you say no.
| Approval | Why | If you say no |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications (setup, step 3) | So Hedroom can tell you when an app starts leaking. | The button reads Ask again, and Hedroom uses the menu bar dot instead. You can change it later in System Settings › Notifications. |
| Open at login (setup, step 3, on by default) | Starts Hedroom when you log in, so it can keep watching. | Turn the switch off and open Hedroom yourself. |
| Helper approval, in System Settings › General › Login Items. Asked only when you turn on a fan curve or raise the GPU memory limit. | Those two change settings that need admin rights. Nothing else uses the helper. What it can and cannot do. | Fans stay on automatic and the GPU limit stays unchanged. Everything else works. |
| Full Disk Access. Asked only if you turn on cleaning of iPhone and iPad backups or Mail downloads. | macOS protects those folders. | Those rows say "Needs Full Disk Access". Everything else works. |
| Browser extension. Only when you click Set up browser companion in Tools. | It lets Hedroom put tabs you have not used to sleep. The extension comes from your browser's store. | Skip it. Nothing else depends on it. |
How to check what you downloaded
A release is built to pass these checks, and they work only once a signed build is published. Before a version ships, our release checklist requires a notarization log with no warnings and macOS accepting the DMG. The trust center adds a check of what the app connects to.
- Compare the file's SHA-256 with the one on this page:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Hedroom.dmg - After you drag the app to Applications, ask macOS whether it is notarized:
spctl -a -vvv /Applications/Hedroom.app. A notarized Developer ID build is reported as accepted. - Read the signature:
codesign -dv --verbose=4 /Applications/Hedroom.appshows the team and that the Hardened Runtime flag is set.
How updates work
Hedroom updates itself with Sparkle 2. It checks once a day, and when you choose Check for updates. An update comes over HTTPS and must carry Hedroom's own EdDSA signature as well as Apple's notarization. The check sends the Hedroom version and build and your macOS version, and nothing about your hardware. Free and Pro Macs both get updates. What changed is on the changelog.
How to uninstall
Open Settings and press Uninstall Hedroom…. Hedroom first puts back everything it changed and resumes any paused app. It then removes its own data and moves the app to the Trash, after you confirm the checklist. Two things stay: a subscription, which you cancel on Manage your subscription or it renews, and files a cleanup moved to the Trash. Full steps: Uninstall Hedroom.
Free and Pro, in one table
Free is free for good, with no card and no account. Pro is a subscription that starts with a 7-day free trial, which starts at checkout and needs a card. The plans and prices are on the pricing page. The prices there are planned and may change.
| What | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Live readings, alerts, plain-words explanations, the weekly report and past receipts | Ja | Ja |
| Storage scan, the startup items list, the display advisor's reading, the local AI fit check and the browser companion's tab-sleep buttons | Ja | Ja |
| Fixes: relaunch, efficiency-core mode, pause | Nein | Ja |
| Rules that run on their own | Nein | Ja |
| New receipts for every action | Nein | Ja |
| Storage cleanup, to the Trash | Nein | Ja |
| Tools that change something, as each ships in 1.1 to 1.3: turning a startup item off, display Try it, power profiles and fan curves, raising the GPU memory limit. Undo and reset are never locked. | Nein | Ja |
| Updates | Ja | Yes, every update while you subscribe |
| Card and account | Neither | A card to start the trial. No account: a license key is your identity. |
Questions before you download
Is it safe to run?
Hedroom asks first, and one safety check runs before any quit, pause or relaunch. It refuses Apple's own processes, the app you are using, apps on a call and anything on your never-touch list. Force quit needs a second confirmation, paused apps resume on their own within 60 minutes, and files go to the Trash. It is not released and has been tested on one Mac so far, which is why the trust center says what is and is not checked.
Funktioniert es auf Intel-Macs?
Nein.
Not your data. App names, usage, history and receipts stay on your Mac. The app goes online only to check a license (once you have one), to look for updates, to download the signed process library about weekly (it sends nothing), and to send feedback you choose to send. There is no analytics. The privacy page has the full list.
Brauche ich für die Testphase eine Karte?
Ja.
Is there a Mac App Store version?
No. Hedroom is not sandboxed and not on the Mac App Store, because the sandbox does not allow pausing or relaunching other apps or reading their memory. A separate App Store edition with fewer features is under evaluation. See the roadmap.
Will it slow my Mac down?
The budget is an average under 0.5% of one core and under 80 MB of memory. On one MacBook Pro (M3 Pro, 18 GB), a release build measured 0.27% of a core and a median of 29.2 MB in a short run with no window open. No 8 GB or 16 GB Mac has been measured yet. The figures, and what is not measured.
One email when the first signed build is published, and nothing in between.
