Power & fans

Free to see, Pro to change

Battery profiles for the whole day, battery health, and fan curves on MacBook Pro.

What it does

  • Offers three profiles. All-day battery moves sync apps and updaters to the efficiency cores and pauses Docker when it is idle. Balanced adds nothing. Full speed adds no slowdowns and uses the Cooler fan curve if fan control is on. Each profile is a set of rules you can read in Rules.
  • Can switch profile when you plug in or unplug, but only after you say yes.
  • Shows battery cycles, rated cycles and whether macOS Optimized Charging is holding the charge. Hedroom reads this and does not change it.
  • On MacBook Pro, runs a fan curve you choose: Quiet, Cooler, Max, or your own 2 to 5 points. Fans return to automatic whenever Hedroom quits.

What it never does

  • Touch Low Power Mode. That stays your switch.
  • Drive the fans until you press Start, or set a speed outside the fan's own minimum and maximum.
  • Fight macOS thermal protection. If macOS reports a serious or critical thermal state, Hedroom hands the fans back.
  • Leave fans forced after Hedroom is gone. The helper puts them back to automatic when Hedroom quits, crashes, or stops answering for 10 seconds.

Free or Pro

Seeing fan speeds, temperatures, battery health and the profiles is free. Switching a profile on and running a fan curve are part of Pro.

The 7-day trial includes everything in Pro. Full pricing table.

Honest limits

  • Fan control needs a small helper that runs with admin rights. It requires approval in System Settings › General › Login Items. Nothing else in Hedroom needs it. Hedroom asks only when you turn on a fan curve.
  • MacBook Pro only. A MacBook Air has no fans, and other Macs keep their fans automatic.
  • On a Mac whose fans cannot be forced, the fans stay automatic and Hedroom says so.
  • Hedroom does not claim a temperature or noise result for any curve. You see the live readings and decide.
