Hedroom 的坦誠對比
Four ways to deal with a Mac that feels slow: read Activity Monitor yourself, let Hedroom watch and explain, press a memory-cleaner button, or leave it alone. Each one is right for someone. This page says who, and where Hedroom is the wrong tool.
The four options at a glance
| Option | What it can tell you | What it can do | What it costs you | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Activity Monitor | Exact numbers for every process: memory, CPU, energy, disk and network. The Memory Pressure graph. A sample of what one process is doing. | Quit or force quit a process when you choose. Nothing else. | Nothing: it is free and part of macOS, and nothing runs when it is closed. You do the reading and the judging. It graphs only while it is open and sends no alerts. | You are comfortable reading the pressure graph and picking the right app yourself, or you are debugging and need every column. |
| Hedroom | Whether memory is Healthy, Strained or Critical, from pressure and swap growth. Which app has grown far past its usual size on your Mac, and which one is burning CPU in the background. What an unfamiliar process is. | Relaunch, move to efficiency cores or pause an app, only after you agree and a safety check passes. Move cleanup files to the Trash after you confirm the list. Write a receipt: readings before and after, or "No measurable effect." | Watching is free. Fixes, rules, new receipts and cleanup are Pro, a subscription with a 7-day trial that needs a card. It runs in the background, on a budget of under 0.5% of one core and 80 MB. It is not released yet. | You would rather be told what is wrong, with the reasoning shown, and have the result checked. |
| RAM cleaners (the category) | Usually the "free memory" figure. | Purge the file cache, or ask for a large block of memory and give it back, so the free figure rises. | Cached files and other apps' memory have to be read back in. The free figure does not show whether your Mac got faster. Our benchmark is built to test that, and no results are published yet. | You want one button and a number that moves. That is what they offer. |
| Doing nothing | Nothing, until something feels wrong. | macOS keeps managing memory itself. It uses spare memory as a file cache and hands it back when an app needs it. | Nothing. If the Memory Pressure graph is green and your Mac feels fine, there is nothing to fix. | Your Mac feels fine. A memory bar that looks full is not a problem by itself. |
Which should I pick?
Start from what is true for you today.
My Mac is slow right now and I want to know why.
Open Activity Monitor, choose the Memory tab and read the pressure graph first. Green is fine. Yellow that stays, or red, means look for the app that grew. Our guide to memory pressure and used RAM shows how. If the graph is green and the Mac is still slow, find the app slowing your Mac.
It keeps happening, and I do not want to watch a graph.
That is the job Hedroom is built for. It keeps readings in the background, learns each app's usual size over 7 days, and tells you when one is far off. How it works, and the features and their limits.
I am tempted by a button that frees memory.
Read Hedroom and RAM cleaners first, then run the test in the guide on your own Mac. It takes Activity Monitor and nothing else.
My Mac feels fine.
Do nothing. Hedroom's answer on a healthy Mac is "All good", and that is a normal answer, not a gap.
The two detailed comparisons
When Hedroom is not the right tool
Better to know before you install it.
- You have an Intel Mac, or macOS 14 or earlier. Hedroom is for Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later. See requirements.
- You need per-process disk or network detail, or you are debugging one process. Activity Monitor and Instruments do that better. Hedroom does not show disk or network per process.
- You simply need more memory. If you run more than your Mac can hold, it will swap. Hedroom can name the app and ask before it acts, and relaunching helps only when an app had grown. It cannot add memory.
- You want tabs put to sleep in Safari. Safari extensions cannot do it. The browser companion works with Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox.
- You want nothing running in the background. Hedroom always runs, in the menu bar. It is built to cost little, but it is not zero.
- You want something already proven on many Macs. Hedroom is not released. It has been tested on one MacBook Pro so far, and the details are on requirements and the roadmap.
- You want a button and a number that moves. Hedroom has no such button, on purpose.
