Move your license to another Mac
One Hedroom Pro license works on as many Macs at a time as your plan covers: 1, 2 or 5. When you get a new Mac, or sell one, you move the license. It takes a minute and needs an internet connection.
These steps describe Hedroom 1.0. The app is not released yet, and licensing is not switched on in any public build today.
Before you start
- Your key is on the welcome page after checkout and in the email we sent. It looks like
HEDR-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Paste it as it is. If you lost it, see "Lost your key?" below. - Activating checks the key once over the internet, with our license server. Nothing about your Mac is sent besides a random device name and ID. Privacy
- The Mac you are leaving keeps the Free features. Nothing is deleted there.
- Deactivating and moving share a limit of 5 a day for each license key. If you reach it, try again the next day.
Option A: free the old Mac first (best)
Do this on the Mac you are giving up, if you still have it.
- Open Hedroom's Settings and find the license card.
- Press Deactivate this Mac.
- Hedroom asks "Deactivate Hedroom on this Mac?" It explains: "This Mac goes back to the Free features and the seat becomes free for another Mac. You can enter the key again any time." Press Deactivate this Mac again to confirm.
- On the new Mac, open Settings, press Enter license key, paste your key and press Activate. When it works, Hedroom says "You're Pro."
Option B: the key is already on every Mac your plan covers
If you cannot reach the old Mac, or you forgot a slot was in use, Hedroom handles it on the new Mac.
- On the new Mac, press Enter license key, paste your key and press Activate.
- Hedroom says the key is already on the most Macs your plan covers. It lists them by the name each was given, or a short name such as "Mac 1". The text beside the list says "Move it from one of them to this Mac. The other Mac keeps the free features."
- Press Move license here next to the Mac you want to stop using.
- Hedroom finishes the activation on this Mac. "You can move it back later the same way."
When something does not work
| Hedroom says | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Hedroom couldn't reach the license server. Check your connection and try again." | Connect to the internet and try again. If you are on the 2-Mac screen and the list of other Macs cannot load, Hedroom suggests deactivating Hedroom on the other Mac in Settings, as in option A. |
| "This key is no longer active on this Mac, for example after moving it to another Mac. Enter it again to use it here." | Use Enter license key again. If the key is on two other Macs, option B applies. |
| "This key was disabled, for example after a refund." | The free features still work and your data is kept. If this is a mistake, write to support@hedroom.app. |
| "This key has expired." | Your subscription ended, usually because it was cancelled or a payment did not go through. The free features still work and your data is kept. Start a plan again on the pricing page, or fix your card on the billing page. |
| "Hedroom couldn't check your license for a while. Connect to the internet once to keep Pro." | Hedroom checks the license about once a week. Pro stays on for up to 30 days offline. Connect once, and press Check now in Settings. |
Lost your key?
We cannot read a key back to you, because after the first 24 hours we keep only a one-way hash of it. We can replace it. On Manage your subscription, enter the email address you bought with, and we send a new key to that address. Your current key keeps working until you use the new one. Once the new key is used, it replaces the old one, so enter it on every Mac that used the old key. The answer is the same whether or not the address has a license, so check the address you used. If you no longer have that mailbox, write to support@hedroom.app.
